Why is data protection training useful?
Beginners and advanced learners both gain from attending data protection training and can achieve the qualifications they need. Employees are made more aware of how to handle personal data. In this way, breaches of the GDPR can be avoided.

Is data protection training mandatory?
No, there is currently no official obligation to provide data protection training according to the GDPR. However, there is an indirect obligation according to Art. 39 §1a of the GDPR, data protection officers are obliged to inform and advise data controllers, processors and employees who process personal data about their obligations. Even if a breach of the GDPR is reported, there are obligations for the controller to provide evidence according to Art. 33 and 34 GDPR. Thus, employee training is a prerequisite for this.
How often does data protection training have to be carried out?
The text of the law does not specify the frequency of data protection training. The principle of appropriateness applies. It depends on whether there are changes in staffing and which business activities are carried out. Half-yearly or annual training on data protection and processing of personal data is appropriate for some companies.
