Nature of the data protection breach

The data protection commissioner (LfDI) of Rhineland-Palatinate imposed a fine of 105,000 euros on a hospital for multiple data protection violations.

The fine relates in particular to the confusion of patients during admission and the resulting incorrect invoicing.

The LfDI hopes that this will help to remedy data protection deficiencies in the long term. Sanctions in the form of fines would be one instrument among many. Substantial progress in the health care sector would be particularly important, as this is an area in which particularly sensitive data is stored. individual-related data can be processed.
