Data breach at Deutsche Bahn

Date: 07.10.2019

Responsible body: Deutsche Bahn

Type of data mishap: Boxes of files found outside the airport

In front of the Düsseldorf airport train station several boxes of files were found, which contained data of employees and passengers. The data relate to the period 1999 to 2004 and were probably sorted out. Instead of disposing of these data safely, they were placed next to the paper containers, publicly visible to visitors to the station. The files were collected and properly disposed of by Deutsche Bahn after the data breach became known.

Categories of data concerned: Name, address data, telephone numbers, shift protocols, transfer orders, payment requests
